Welcome to PRIMA-EF

Work-related psychosocial risks have been identified as one of the major contemporary challenges for occupational health and safety; and are linked to such workplace problems as work-related stress, violence, harassment and bullying. PRIMA-EF aims at providing policy makers, employers, trade unions, experts and employees with a comprehensive best practice framework for psychosocial risk management at the workplace. PRIMA-EF is part of the World Health Organization’s Healthy Workplaces Framework.

The PRIMA-EF Consortium is led by the Institute of Work, Health & Organisations (University of Nottingham) and includes BAuA, ISPESL, TNO, CIOP and FIOH. The Consortium founding members are Collaborating Centres in Occupational Health of the World Health Organization (WHO).

PRIMA-EF activities have been supported with funding from SALTSA and the European Commission (6th Framework Programme for Research and Lifelong Learning Leonardo Da Vinci Programme). A number of organisations are involved in PRIMA-EF activities (see links on the left) including the WHO, ILO, EC, EU-OSHA, EUROFOUND, ICOH-WOPS, BUSINESSEUROPE, ETUC, ETUI-REHS, CEEP, UEAPME, UNIZO.

The links on the left provide access to the PRIMA-EF work carried out so far as well as ongoing initiatives. Completed work includes a number of practical tools such as reviews of European examples of best practice, guides, guidance sheets and inventories of best practice in psychosocial risk management.

Ongoing work focuses on the development of a Psychosocial Risk Management – Vocational Education and Training (PRIMAeT) programme. This will use innovative ICT-based contents for promoting psychosocial risk management at the workplace delivered by means of a virtual learning environment. The training package will include information to raise awareness as well as tools that can be used at the enterprise level to prevent and manage psychosocial risks.

In addition, the PRIMA-EF Consortium is working with the British Standards Institute towards the development of a Publicly Available Specification (PAS) for psychosocial risk management. It is expected that the standard (PAS 1010) will set a consensus led benchmark for psychosocial risk management and will increase and enhance awareness in this area. PAS1010 is expected to be published in December 2010.
